What to bring to NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course. If you do not have something on the list or have questions about anything listed contact us as soon as possible to discuss it.
You can find a downloadable list by clicking the link below.
Wraparound, clear lensed, “safety rated” eye protection. NO COLORED / TINTED LENSES without prior approval. This allows our training staff to see what you are looking at.
NOTE: If you require corrective lenses, please bring “safety rated” protective glasses that can comfortably fit over your prescription glasses. Or prescription safety glasses that show the appropriate markings to be considered “safety rated” and cover the sides.
This can be any type, ear plugs, earmuffs but TK2A Training highly recommends Electronic Muffs for your hearing protection. Affordable versions can be found and make it much easier to communicate while training. If you need us to suggest an affordable pair please contact us.
Fluids, some way to hydrate yourself. A hydration bladder, water bottles, etc. are recommended. Bring enough to get you through the course.
Full length pants, jeans, BDUs, or canvas type pants are recommended. Appropriate socks, close toed footwear, head wear and clothing appropriate for the weather conditions we may encounter. Bring a pair of gloves as we may frequently move targets and for range clean up.
Absolutely NO SHORTS or CAPRI PANTS! No open toe footwear. No tank tops or other sleeveless, or low-cut shirts permitted on the TK2A Range. Hot brass will find any exposed skin it can and will be more than just irritating, it can make a shooter react in an unsafe manner.
NOTE: The TK2A Range is outdoors. Our training is real world, so that means training will continue regardless of mother nature’s mood. We train in rain, snow, wind, sleet, meteors, locust, murder hornets or the like. We recommend a hat, sun shade sleeves / gaiter, sunscreen, lip balm, insect repellent, and any other weather related clothing, rain coat, etc.
Bring a Full Size or Compact Pistol in good working order that you are familiar with. It also helps if it is cleaned and properly lubricated. Please have read the Owner’s Manual for your pistol prior to attending the course and be familiar with its safely manipulate its action and be familiar with how it operates. We do not recommend bringing sub-compact or micro-pistols. If you are wanting to use a sub-compact or micro-pistol, contact us as soon as possible to discuss the issue.
NOTE: It is always a good idea to bring a backup pistol, but we do not suggest switching platforms or calibers during the course. Only if your primary pistol goes down hard. The class will move forward with the course objectives if you have equipment issues.
NOTE: If you do not have a pistol but want to take the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course contact us and we’ll be happy to discuss it. We want to train you, and will do what we can to help make that happen. Use of TK2A Training Equipment does incur a extra “Equipment Included” charge, contact us and we can provide you with the extra cost estimate for use of our training equipment.
For beginners we suggest a 22LR pistol or we recommend a semi-automatic pistol in 9mm or revolvers with 38 Special or smaller ammo. If you have any concern about the pistol you wish to train with please contact us. Bring the pistol unloaded in a case, magazines unloaded as well.
NO LIVE AMMUNITION WILL BE ALLOWED EXCEPT ON THE RANGE!
For the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting we recommend that you bring 100-150 rounds of standard velocity FMJ “full metal jacket” training ammunition.
If you are using a 22LR pistol we suggest copper clad in lieu of standard bare lead ammunition.
If you have any question as to how much or what kind of ammunition to bring contact us to discuss. It is better to have more than you need.
Absolutely NO RELOADED or +P ammunition permitted. If you have any ammunition related questions, contact us and we can discuss them.
Not needed for the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course. We request that you bring your pistol to training unloaded, in a case. In fact, unless you posses a valid and recognized CCW it could very well be illegal to transport a pistol otherwise.
It is our suggestion to bring at least two, or more functioning magazines. In general, the more the better. If your pistol magazines are 10 round or less capacity, we suggest you bring even more. You want to be training, not reloading magazines. All magazines should be brought to the course unloaded, we will give you ample time to load them prior to the range portion of the class.
Not needed for the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course.
Cleaning and maintenance supplies for daily pistol maintenance. Cleaning is part of the training.
